Buckeyes dethrone the #1 Hawkeyes 22-13 in a torrential rain.

On a day when the rain never stops, Iowa loses its grasp on the top ranking after 5 weeks, committing 5 turnovers, including 4 INTs by Heisman candidate Chuck Long. Long's 3 1st half INTs put Iowa in a hole it can't dig out of.

Ohio State gets 2 FGs from Rich Spangler in the 1st half. After his 1st, Sonny Gordon records a safety giving the Buckeyes a 5-0 lead when John Woolridge bursts free for a 57-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter. After Spangler's 2nd FG, the Hawkeyes show life with a late drive that ends in Kevin Harmon's 3-yard TD run to cut it to 15-7 at the half.

A 3rd quarter fumble sets up Vince Workman's 4-yard TD run for a 22-7 lead. The Hawkeyes close to 22-13 on David Hudson's 2-yard TD run w/ 8:19 left. However, Chris Spielman later seals the win with his 2nd pick of Long, who throws for just 169 yards.
