#1 Hawkeyes slip by the #2 Wolverines 12-10 on the final play.

Rob Houghtlin's 29-yard FG as time expires lifts Iowa to a 6-0 record for the 1st time since 1960 and maintains the Hawkeyes' top-ranking. The Hawkeyes dominate Michigan statistically, out-gaining the Wolverines 422 to 182 in total yardage. Chuck Long throws for 297 yards and Ronnie Harmon rushes for 120 yards.

However, Iowa is unable to convert the yards into points, settling for 4 FGs by Houghtlin. The Wolverines do a better job of cashing in as Jamie Morris makes a long return of the kickoff following Houghtlin's 1st FG, to set up a 6-yard TD pass from Jim Harbaugh to Gerald White. Houghtlin adds 2 more FGs to regain a 9-7 lead for the Hawkeyes, only to see Mike Gillette answer with a 40-yarder setting the stage for the decisive kick on the final play.
