Stanford reclaims the Axe with a dominant performance against Cal, which was without starting QB Troy Taylor due to injury. The Cardinal's defense is able to shutdown the limited Bears' offense.

Brad Muster rushes for 90 yards and catches 7 passes for 56 yards. Brian Johnson throws for 202 yards and an 82-yard TD pass to Walter Batson for the opening score and then scores a 1-yard TD run to open a 17-7 lead. Muster's 15-yard TD run in the 4th quarter pushes the lead to 24-7.
