Notes: Commercials and halftime edited out... 1 or 2 plays missing from 3rd quarter... a little bit of tracking at the start, and throughout most of the game picture has a 'flickering' effect like some frames are stronger than others... Preserved because to date, this is the only version of this game I'm aware of. The conversion is from 1st gen. VHS copy I made of a master I was able to borrow years ago... the issues noted were on the master recording.

Cougars top the Owls 45-21 to capture the Bayou Bucket in an yardage fest.

David Dacus throws for a SWC-record 450 yards and 2 TDs as the 2 teams combine for 1,021 total yards. Kimble Anders catches 13 passes for 147 yards while rushing for 88 yards and 2 TDs. Jason Phillips hauls in 12 passes for 81 yards and James Dixon has 8 catches for 203 yards and 2 TDs.

Houston's offensive outburst overshadows Mark Comalander's 316 yards for Rice. The Owls trail just 22-21 until late in the 3rd quarter when Chip Browndyke adds the 1st of 2 FGs, and then Cougars break the game open in the 4th quarter.

Johnny Jackson returns a blocked FG 75 yards for a TD, and Dacus follows with a 23-yard TD pass to James Dixon before Browndyke adds his 2nd FG.
