Game Notes
#2 Hurricanes trump the #1 Sooners again, capturing their 2nd National Championship with a 20-14 win.
Miami beats Oklahoma for the 3rd straight time in 3 years to take the championship crown. The Hurricanes slow the Sooners' high-powered offense to just 255 yards, allowing Oklahoma to get close in the final minutes when Mark Hutson successfully converts a fumble-rooskie into a 29-yard TD.
Steve Walsh throws for 209 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Hurrcianes. The 2 teams trade scores in the 1st half with Melvin Bratton catching a 30-yard TD from Walsh and Anthony Stafford scoring on a 1-yard run late in the 2nd quarter. Miami takes the lead on Greg Cox's Orange Bowl-record 56-yard FG, and then extends the lead on Walsh's 23-yard TD pass to Michael Irvin after a successful gamble on 4th-and-4.
