Florida State's #1 ranking can't survive opening night as defending National Champ Miami dominates the Seminoles. Steve Walsh throws for 228 yards and 2 TDs, while the defense forces 6 turnovers.

After a FG by Carlos Huerta, the Hurricanes convert a turnover into a 2-yard TD run by Cleveland Gary. Walsh then extends the lead to 17-0 with a 19-yard TD pass to Rob Chudzinski in the final minute of the 1st half. Walsh hits Leonard Conley for a 5-yard TD pass on the opening drive of the 2nd half to send Florida State spiraling to its first shutout since 1976.
