Game Notes

#8 Volunteers turn back the #10 Razorbacks for 31-27 win.

Tennessee makes big plays while Arkansas wastes chances. The Volunteers and Razorbacks combine for a Cotton Bowl record 1,038 yards. However, the Volunteers maximize their production.

Andy Kelly connects with Anthony Morgan on an 84-yard TD pass and Chuck Webb adds a 78-yard TD run. Webb rushes for 250 yards on 26 carries. Meanwhile, Arkansas gets a pair of 100-yard rushing performances by James Rouse (134 yards) and Barry Foster (103 yards).

The big difference proves to be 2 turnovers and a failed 4th down on 3 trips inside the 10-yard line by Arkansas. The Razorbacks twice have chances to go up 13-3 only to turn the ball over. After the 2nd, Kelly hits Morgan for the 84-yard TD pass and the Volunteers never trail again.

Webb adds a 1-yard TD run and Kelly hits Greg Ansler for a 1-yard TD pass opening a 24-6 lead before Arkansas starts to rally.
