#3 Hurricanes escape with 30-28 win over the Aztecs.

Miami staggers throughout with a few big plays and many stalled drives but manages the victory, thanks in part to 3 missed FG attempts by San Diego State. The Hurricanes broke a 20-20 tie with Craig Erickson's 11-yard TD pass to Randal Hill in the 3rd quarter that was followed by Carlos Huerta's 3rd FG.

However, after the missed FGs the Aztecs pulled with in striking distance on Dan McGwire's 13-yard TD pass to Dennis Arey and 2-point conversion with 2:40 left. After a brawl following the 2-point conversion, Miami recovered the ensuing onside kick and killed all but the last 9 seconds before pinning San Diego State deep.

McGwire throws for 323 yards and 2 TDs and 1 INT. Erickson finished 17-of-39 for 284 yards and 2 TDs with 1 INT after a miserable 6-of-21 1st half.
