Syracuse delivers a statement from the opening kickoff when Kirby Dar Dar takes a reverse on the opening kickoff 95 yards for a TD. After a short punt by Florida on the ensuing series, Marvin Graves guides the Orangemen for another score, on David Walker's 10-yard TD run for a 14-0 lead.

The Gators rally behind Shane Matthews, who throws for 347 yards and 3 TDs, but each rally is met with a rebuttal by Syracuse both offensively and defensively. Graves throws for 162 yards and 2 TDs while Terry Richardson and Walker combine for 166 yards rushing.
