The frustration ends for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks with a 17-13 win over defending champion Pittsburg State.

After 3 straight losses in the championship game, Jacksonville State wins it after stopping a final drive by the Gorillas. The Gamecocks weather an awful start when Harlon Hill Trophy-winner Ronald Moore returns the opening kickoff 99 yards for a 6-0 lead. However, Jacksonville State slows Pittsburg State's attack.

After Ron Hutchins' 38-yard TD pass to Ray Staten puts the Gorillas up 13-3, its all Jacksonville State, which rushes for 390 yards.

Danny Lee's 8-yard TD run pulls the Gamecocks within 13-10, and then Sean Richardson caps the 1st drive of the 2nd half with a 5-yard TD run to give Jacksonville State the lead. Richardson rushes for 109 yards while Chuck Robinson rushes for 100 yards.
