Dan Mowrey pushes a 39-yard FG wide right on the final play as Miami wins on near identical circumstances for the 2nd year in a row. It was Mowrey's 3rd miss of the day for Florida State, which appeared in control, leading 16-10 after 3 FGs by Mowrey and a 94-yard return for a TD by Tamarick Vanover on the opening kickoff.

However, Gino Torretta overcomes an awful stretch when he lofts a rainbow to Lamar Thomas for a 33-yard TD pass in the 4th quarter, and then Miami extends the lead when Corey Sawyer attempts a forward lateral from his own end zone following a punt, resulting in a safety. But Charley Ward is able to rally FSU on a final drive to set up Mowrey's Wide Right.
