Errict Rhett rushes for 182 yards and adds 60 yards receiving as Florida dominates N.C. State on offense and defense while combatting a heavy fog that rolls in during the 2nd quarter. Shane Matthews throws for 247 yards and 2 TDs, while the Gators' defense forces 11 punts and keeps the Wolfpack out of the end zone until the closing minutes.

Matthews scores on a 1-yard run in the 1st half, and then hits Willie Jackson with a 17-yard TD pass early in the 2nd half for a 17-0 lead. Judd Davis adds a 2nd FG, helping Florida control the game with a 20-3 lead until a turnover sets up N.C. State with a short field helping the Wolfpack reach the end zone with a 11-yard TD pass from Terry Jordan to Aubrey Shaw w/ 2:14 to play.
