Wisconsin stops Ohio State twice in the final quarter to preserve the win. After Kirk Herbstreit's 3-yard TD pass to Brian Stablien pulls the Buckeyes within a score w/ 4:29 left, a half-the-distance penalty prompts them to go for 2 points, but Raymont Harris is stopped short. Without the option of a FG to tie, Ohio State later goes for it on 4th down in Wisconsin territory and is stopped.

The Badgers defense hounds Herbstreit throughout, sacking him 5 times. Meanwhile, Wisconsin's Darrell Bevell throws for 216 yards. The Badgers put together a time-eating, 15-play drive during the 4th quarter that results in a 31-yard FG by Rich Thompson that gives them a 20-10 lead. After the final defensive stop, Wisconsin converts a pair of 3rd downs to burn up the clock.
