Stanford's defense shuts down Penn State and relies on a steady offense to control the game. Steve Stenstrom throws for 210 yards and 2 TDs, and Ellery Roberts rushes for 98 yards as the Cardinal completes its 1st 10-win season since 1940.

Stenstrom's 2-yard TD pass to Ryan Wetnight on the opening drive gives Stanford an immediate lead. The Cardinal stretches the lead to 14-3 on J.J. Lasley's 5-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter. Stenstrom combines with Glyn Milburn for a 40-yard TD pass on a screen in the 3rd quarter to take a commanding 24-3 lead.
