#14 Orangemen escape with a controversial 20-17 win over the #25 Mountaineers.

Syracuse dominates the game statistically, but trails 17-13 until the frantic closing minutes. Marvin Graves hits Chris Gedney with a 17-yard TD pass w/ :51 to play to pull out the win following a brawl-marred drive.

Trying to rally the Orangemen from deep in their own end, Graves scrambles running out of bounds just before West Virginia defensive back Tommy Orr hits him, an irate Graves drills Orr with the football igniting a brawl that results in 4 5 penalties and 4 ejections. When play resumes, Syracuse would fail on a 4th-down, but was bailed out with a pass interference. Graves then connects with Gedney for a big gain to set up the winning TD.
