Game Notes

#14 Bruins hold off the #13 Volunteers 25-23.

UCLA converts a late turnover into a TD after Tennessee cuts an 18-0 deficit to 18-16. Darron Washington cuts through the Volunteers for a 30-yard TD run w/ 1:38 left to seal the win after Donnie Edwards picks off Todd Helton.

The Bruins fail to put Tennessee away, settling for FGs while the Volunteers struggle to overcome the loss of starting QB Jerry Colquitt on the opening series. Wayne Cook throws for 295 yards and Sharmon Shah rushes for 133 yards, but UCLA finds the end zone only 1 time before the clinching TD.

Tennessee turns to backup QB Todd Helton and true freshmen Peyton Manning and Branndon Stewart after Colquitt is lost for the season. They struggle until Helton finds a rhythm in the 2nd half and leads the Volunteers' rally.
