Penn State is able to weather the soggy, wet conditions while Auburn's attack is stymied after Stephen Davis is sidelined with a concussion and Patrick Nix's passing game is grounded. Nix finishes just 5-of-25 passing while Davis, who sparked the Tigers in the 1st half, leaves with 119 yards on 12 carries.

The Nittany Lions are immune from such struggles as Wally Richardson throws for 217 yards and 4 TDs with Bobby Engram catching 4 passes for 113 yards and 2 TDs. Penn State takes command following Nix's 1st interception as Richardson hits Mike Archie with an 8-yard TD pass for a 16-7 lead just before halftime.

Richardson extends the lead with a 9-yard TD pass to Engram to start the 3rd quarter and then shortly after he adds his 3rd TD passes and Curtis Enis scores on a 1-yard run following turnovers by Auburn for a 36-7 lead.
