Georgia rallies from a 24-6 deficit to tie the game in an improbable way w/ 1:09 to play, but the Virginia's Demetrius Allen returns the ensuing kickoff 83 yards for the winning TD. Allen earlier scores on an 82-yard TD pass from Mike Groh for a 24-6 lead late in the 1st half.

Georgia battled back, but appeared to have its best hopes dashed on a 4th-down incompletion with just over 2 minutes to play. But Jason Ferguson scoops up a fumble and returns it 10 yards for the tying TD. However, a celebration penalty forced the Bulldogs to kickoff from its own 20 setting the stage for the winning TD.

Converted receiver Hines Ward sets a Georgia bowl record with 413 yards passing.
