Alabama's defense stands up when needed to send Gene Stallings off with a victory. Trailing 6-3, with Michigan driving, the Tide forces Brian Griese into a bad pass that Dwayne Rudd picks off and returns 88 yards for the go-ahead TD in the 4th quarter.

Twice earlier, Alabama forces a pair of FGs by the Wolverines. Shaun Alexander breaks the game open with a 46-yard TD run after the Tide stops Michigan on a 4th down. Alexander rushes for 99 yards on 9 carries, but Alabama is outgained 415-to-247 in total yards.
