Michigan musters enough offense to put away punchless Illinois. Scott Dreisbach delivers most of the the Wolverines' attack, scoring on a 72-yard run and then adding a 10-yard TD pass in the 4th quarter to open a 17-8 lead as they win the field position battle.

Michigan also gets a 57-yard rub by Charles Woodson that sets up a FG. However, Illinois also blocks a pair of FGs keeping the game close.
