Southern Cal awakens from a 1st half slumber, rallying to take the lead twice, and then make a critical stop in the final minute. After a 51-yard completion on 3rd-and-37 keeps alive a final Washington State drive, Sammy Knight recovers a Ryan Leaf fumble in the final minute after the Cougars drive inside the 20.

The Trojans had taken a 23-17 lead after Shawn Walters' 1-yard TD run early in the 4th quarter. However, Washington State regains the lead on a 1-yard TD toss from Leaf to David Knuff. Southern Cal answers with a 13-play drive capped by Delon Washington's 17-yard TD run w/ 2:05 left.
