After struggling to a 3-3 halftime tie, LSU takes over the second half to dominate with its running game. Rondell Mealey rushes for 85 yards and 2 TDs, as the Tigers roll up 257 yards rushing from the tailback spot.

Mealey's 1-yard TD run in the 3rd quarter puts LSU ahead. Herb Tyler adds a 2-yard TD pass to Furnell Hankton for a 17-3 lead. After Mississippi State closes to within 17-9, Mealey's 2-yard TD run in the 4th quarter puts the game away.
