#5 Wolverines slam #15 Spartans 23-7.

Michigan's defense puts a vice grip on Michigan State after falling behind 7-3 in the 1st quarter. The Wolverines pick off 6 passes in shutting down the Spartans. Charles Woodson intercepts a pair of passes in the 2nd half, the latter setting up a 2-yard TD run by Chris Howard to open a 20-7 lead.

Howard finishes with 110 yards rushing to carry Michigan's offense. Brian Griese caps a 95-yard drive with a 1-yard TD run w/ :47 left in the 2nd quarter to put the Wolverines ahead 10-7. Cedric Irvin is the lone Michigan State standout, rushing for 81 yards and catching 5 passes for 77 yards, including a 22-yard TD pass from Bill Burke on a fake FG.
