Washington State withstands a big 2nd half rally by UCLA when Leon Bender stops Jermaine Lewis on 4th-and-goal at the 1 with just over 2 minutes remaining. The Bruins were without an exhausted Skip Hicks for the decisive play after Hicks rushes for 190 yards and 4 TDs.

Hicks' big day is offset by Ryan Leaf, who throws for 381 yards and 3 TDs. Leaf hits Chris Jackson with a 78-yard TD pass early in the 2nd half for a 37-21 lead before UCLA begins its rally.
