Notre Dame wins the battle with West Virginia on 3 key 4th quarter passes. Ivory Covington picks off Marc Bulger's pass as the Mountaineers appear to be driving for the go-ahead score. Instead, the Irish then drive for Ron Powlus' 11-yard TD pass to Bobby Brown w/ 4:56 left. West Virginia has one last chance but Ty Goode picks off Bulger in the end zone with 8 seconds left.

The three decisive plays help the Irish overcome a huge day by Amos Zereoue, who rushes for 234 yards and 2 TDs. Zereoue's 2nd TD run gives the Mountaineers a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter. However, Jarious Jackson's 7-yard TD pass to Malcom Johnson ties it before halftime.
