Alabama gets a school-record 5 TDs from Shaun Alexander and survives a 2nd half rally by Brigham Young to claim its 1st win at Bryant-Denny Stadium since 1996. Alexander finishes with 115 yards rushing and scores a pair of TDs in the 4th quarter as he carries the load when cramping plagues starting QB John David Phillips.

The Tide had built up a 24-7 lead with the Cougars' lone TD coming from its defense. But BYU's offense wakes up late in the 1st half and pulls even in the 3rd quarter following a 6-yard TD run by Junior Mahe and a FG makes its 24-24. Alexander answers with TD runs of 28 and 3 yards to reclaim a 38-24 lead.
