Tulane improves to 4-0 for the 1st time since 1974 with a big-play defensive effort to stop Southern Miss. The Green Wave force 6 turnovers, picking off Lee Roberts 4 times, sacking him 3 times. The biggest play was by Tim Carter stripping Todd Pinkston at the goalline preventing a tying TD in the 1st quarter.

Previously, Alphonso Roundtree returns an INT 59 yards for the 1st Tulane score. Jamaican Dartez adds a 1-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter following another INT. Shaun King, playing with his left hand in a cast, hits P.J. Franklin for a 35-yard TD pass and 21-0 lead in the 3rd quarter.
