Tennessee jumps out a 14-0 lead and then withstands Auburn's rally with the help of Tiger mistakes. Auburn executes a strong opening drive, but then Ben Leard is hit attempting a shuttle pass inside the Vols' 10 and Shaun Ellis picks it off and returns it 90 yards for a TD.

Jamal Lewis, who rushes for 140 yards, slices through the Tigers for a 67-yard TD run on Tennessee's 1st offensive play. Auburn battles back, but 4 trips inside the 10 result in the INT returned for a TD, a fumble, being stopped for downs after 1st-and-goal at the 1, and a FG, resulting in a 17-3 deficit.

The Tigers battled back within 17-9, but 2 late possessions in Tennessee territory ended with a stop on 4th-and-10 and an incomplete pass into the end zone.
