Virginia's defense overwhelms Auburn allowing just 18 yards rushing in the process of authoring the 1st opening game shutout in Jordan-Hare Stadium history. The Tigers manage just 8 first downs behind 1st time starter Ben Leard and never threaten to get on the scoreboard.

The Cavaliers' offense sputters after a 61-yard TD pass from Aaron Brooks to Kevin Coffey for a 6-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. However, Virginia manages enough running with Thomas Jones (100 yards) and Antoine Womack (68 yards) to control the game and finish off Auburn in the 4th quarter.
