Wisconsin erases a 14-7 deficit to avoid the upset by San Diego State. With Ron Dayne sitting out the contest with an ankle injury, and backup Eddie Faulkner injured during the game, the Badgers turn to Mike Samuel to bail them out.

WIsconsin turns a turnover and a blocked punt into FGs and then Samuel runs 47 yards for the go-ahead score. Samuel finishes for 111 yards, including a 60-yard TD pass to Chris Chambers. Third-stringer Carlos Daniels rushes for 113 yards in place of Dayne and Faulkner.
