Alabama stages a comeback behind Shaun Alexander in the 2nd half. Alexander rushes for 182 yards, 138 coming after halftime, while scoring 3 TDs and breaking Bobby Humphrey's school record for career rushing yardage.

Auburn leads 14-6 at the half and starts the 2nd half with an impressive drive before it ends in a missed 21-yard FG attempt. The Tide then drives inside the Tigers' 2 before Alexander is stopped on 4th down. However, the momentum Auburn gains from the stop is short lived as Ben Laird is sacked for a safety on the next play. Alabama then drives for the go-ahead TD by Alexander following the ensuing free kick.
