Nebraska avenges its loss in 1998 and hands Kansas State its 1st loss of the season, extending a stretch of wins over Kansas State in Lincoln to 1968. Eric Crouch runs 158 yards and 2 TDs, and throws for 69 more to lead the Cornhuskers.

Meanwhile, the Nebraska defense holds the Wildcats to just 92 yards rushing and defuses their attack. The Cornhuskers put the ball on the ground 10 times, including a fumble on the 1st play, but the field position is waste when the field goal attempt following, is blocked and Nebraska runs off 16 straight points to establish control.
