Todd Husak throws for 364 yards and 1 TD and runs for another to lead Stanford past the conference pre-season favorite Arizona. After the Wildcats strike for an early TD, the Cardinal score the next 30 points to grab control of the game.

Dennis Northcutt catches 8 passes for 139 yards and 2 TDs, helping Arizona rally to within 30-22 in the 3rd quarter. However, Stanford responds in the 4th quarter to seal the win. Kerry Carter rushes for 79 yards and 3 TDs, while Troy Walters catches 8 passes for 168 yards.
