Making its 1st bowl appearance since 1994, Illinois makes an immediate statement, rolling to a 42-7 lead in the 1st half behind Kurt Kittner and a powerful running game. Kittner hits 14-of-24 for 254 yards and 2 TDs, runs for a TD and adds a TD reception on a pass from receiver Brandon Lloyd.

After the teams trade scores early in the 1st quarter, the Illini start their rout of Virginia with a 47-yard TD run by Rocky Harvey. Kittner then follows with a catch-and-run for a 30-yard TD pass from Lloyd. Kittner adds one more TD pass but its the running game that amasses 325 yards that continues the dominance.
