Tennessee begins its defense of the National Championship with a sluggish performance against Wyoming, flashing moments of brilliance with periods of slumping. The highlights for the Vols were Tee Martin's 264 yards passing and 2 TDs and Jamal Lewis' 159 yards and 3 TDs.

However, backup QB Matt Swanson riddles the Tennessee defense, hitting 16-of-21 and keeping the Cowboys respectable despite Swanson and starter, Jay Stoner suffering 13 sacks.
