Despite playing without star RB/DB Cameron Saddler (Pitt), the Gators find a Plan B to go with a strong defense to beat the Tigers. Saddler's replacement Leon Green (Kent State) alternates between RB and QB and rushes for 69 yards on offense, and returns an INT 97 yards for a TD. Jeff Parrish adds 79 yards rushing and Brian Williams (Navy) contributes 57 yards.

Meanwhile, standouts lead the Gators' defense as LB Shayne Hale (Pitt) makes 11 tackles and junior LB Dorian Bell (Ohio State) leads with 15 tackles.

Gateway includes OT Eric Warning (Duquesne), WR/DB Jon Pryor (Eastern Michigan), junior DE B.J. Stevens (Miami O.), junior CB Corey Brown (Ohio State).
