Game Notes

Oaks Christian Lions work overtime to avoid the huge upset, and beat Cardinal Newman 27-20.

Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame) and the heavily favored Lions win it on RB/S Marshall Jones' (USC) 3rd TD, a 7-yarder in OT. Oaks Christian's defense then makes the stop of the Cardinals to win it. Jones, starting for injured star Marc Tyler (USC), rushes for 82 yards and 2 TDs, and catches 4 passes for 32 yards and 1 TD.

Clausen hits 12-of-23 for 94 yards and 1 TD, but suffers 3 INTs after throwing just 4 all season. Cardinal Newman's defensive effort and ball-control offense puts the Cardinals in position to pull off the upset. However, a mistake also costs them when freshman DB Malcolm Jones (UCLA) picks off Ryan Lingle and returns it 64 yards for a TD.

Cardinal Newman includes OT Alex Netter (Northwestern), WR/S Scott Magnuson (Fort Lewis).

Oaks Christian includes WR/S Sean Wiser (Stanford), DE/OT Michael Ebbitt (Texas A&M), OG Cory Yriarte (Boise State), DE/OT Duke Lemmens (Florida), DT Tommy Grillo (UC-Davis), LB Casey Matthews (Oregon), CB Anthony Gildon (Oregon), junior WR/DB Chris Potter (Boise State), junior WR Christopher Owusu (Stanford).
