Game Notes

Plant Panthers rally to stun Nease 25-21.

Robert Marve (Miami/Purdue) leads a game-winning drive after Nease goes ahead following his 2nd INT. Junior Ted Stachitas (Wake Forest) had put the Nease Panthers ahead 21-17 with a 10-yard run w/ 3:03 to play. But Marve guides Plant on a 12-play drive, going 78 yards before hitting junior Derek Winter (Auburn) for a 4-yard TD pas and then Winter tosses a 2-point conversion after a high snap on the PAT.

The break turns out huge when junior WR/DB Graham Bates (Arkansas State) returns the ensuing kickoff to the Plant 23-yard line, but with just :03 left, Nease needs a TD not a FG. Stachitas is sacked on the final play, preserving Plant's win.

Marve goes 29-of-44, setting championship game records for both, for 276 yards and 3 TDs. Winter catches 13 for 114 yards and 2 TDs. Junior WR Cornelius Gallon (Central Michigan) adds 7 catches for 55 yards and 1 TD.

Stachitas counters for Nease, throwing for 175 yards and 1 TD, while rushing for 96 yards and 2 TDs. RB Zach Tronti (Brown) adds 88 yards rushing.

Plant includes junior RB Lovell Jackson, junior OT Rhonne Sanderson (Florida State).
