Game Notes

Mesquite Skeeters overcome a horrendous start to edge San Antonio-Taft 14-13 and capture their 1st state championship.

Mesquite trails 13-0 and has minus-20 yards on offense early in the 2nd half before striking with 2 big plays to overcome the Raiders. A quick drive sets up Lemond Fofang's 10-yard TD run for the 1st score and then Matt Hodges hits WR/DB Brandon Douglas (Texas Tech) with a 55-yard TD pass. Douglas then makes a 4th quarter interception to help hold off a Taft rally.

The Raiders had capitalized on a pair of turnovers by Mesquite on the wet day, setting up TD runs by Robert Merrill (TCU).

Mesquite includes DB/WR Krys Williams (Baylor), DE Chris Hudler (Texas Tech).
