Southlake Carroll Dragons answer the challenge, rallying to beat Austin-Westlake 43-29 for their 4th state championship in 5 seasons.

The Chaparrals kead 15-9 at halftime, but Riley Dodge (North Texas) and junior Tre Newton (Texas) take over in the 2nd half. Dodge tosses 3 TD passes in the 2nd half and Newton turns in a highlight 74-yard TD run featuring several broken tackles. Dodge goes 16-of-26 for 303 yards with Newton rushing for 125 yards and 3 TDs on 13 carries.

Nick Foles (Arizona) throws for 299 yards and 1 TD and helps Westlake get out to a 15-7 lead in the 1st half, highlighted by an 18-yard TD pass to TE Stephen Shaffer (Air Force). However, the Dragons tie it on the opening drive of the 2nd half when Dodge hits Blake Tomlin with a 30-yard TD pass and then converts a 2-point try. They hook up again for a 33-yard TD pass on the ensuing drive.

After Bron Hager's 1-yard TD run draws Westlake even again, Newton answers with his 74-yard TD run late in the 3rd quarter. Hager (North Texas) gives the Chaparrals an equalizer early in the 4th quarter with a 1-yard TD run. But Dodge regains the lead for the Dragons with a 29-yard TD pass to Anthony Ford (Georgetown) and Newton's 3rd TD run clinches the win.
