Dave Cowens, Celtics are left standing with a 99-94 win over the Cavaliers.

The battle and 3-2 series lead go to Boston as Cowens comes out the victor in a game-long battle with foul-plagued Nate Thurmond. Cowens, survives foul trouble of his own, and scores 26 points and wins the boards along with Paul Silas. The path becomes easier when Thurmond fouls out w/ 5:03 to play after Cleveland scored 8 straight to tie it 80-80.

Thurmond had been the defensive and rebounding equalizer despite picking up 4 quick fouls and playing most of the 2nd half with 5 fouls. Combined with Jim Cleamons and Campy Russell on the offensive end, the Cavaliers stay close until the final minute when Boston stretches out the lead. Cleamons leads Cleveland with 18 points, Russell adds 17. Charlie Scott backs up Cowens with 22 points for the Celtics.
