Game Notes

Vikings survive in regulation, win 22-16 in OT.

Matt Blair blocks a potential winning 40-yard FG by the Bears in the final 2 minutes of regulation, and then Paul Krause hits Stu Voight with an 11-yard TD pass on a fake FG attempt to win it for Minnesota. The Vikings had gone up 13-0 but after a rally by Chicago, need a 21-yard FG from Fred Cox to tie it in the 4th quarter.

Chuck Foreman and Walter Payton carry their offenses. Foreman rushes for 150 yards on 26 carries and adds 5 catches for 33 yards, and puts the Vikings on the board 1st with a 2-yard run. After a pair of FGs by Cox, the Bears rally behind Payton, who rushes for 122 yards.

Bob Avellini starts Chicago's rally with a 9-yard TD pass to Bo Rather in the 2nd quarter, however, the PAT is missed, which looms critical. Avellini's 2-yard TD pass to Greg Latta gives the Bears a 16-13 lead in the 3rd quarter.
