Steve Bartkowski's 24-yard TD pass to Billy Ryckman in the 2nd quarter would be all the offense Atlanta needs, and appears to be all it will get until Bubba Bean adds a 25-yard TD run with just over 1 minute to play. Bean rushes for 78 yards and catches 2 passes for 15 yards, being the most productive offensive threat for the Falcons.

Bartkowski goes 11-of-17 for 162 yards, but its the Falcons defense that is the key. Atlanta holds Detroit to just 169 total yards, including 22 yards on 26 rushes, while sacking Gary Danielson 4 times and forcing 3 turnovers.

The Falcons make 2 key stops while protecting a 7-0 lead, stopping the Lions on 4th-and-goal at the 1 yard line when Dexter Bussey is stopped just shy of the goal, and then stalling another Detroit drive inside the 20 in the 4th quarter.
