Tampa Bay weathers a pair of early turnovers, only allowing 6 points off 2 deep in its own territory. Meanwhile, the Bucs defense smothers the Los Angeles attack, holding the Rams to 186 yards on a wet day, while forcing 4 turnovers, most coming late as they deny any rally attempt.

Tampa Bay erupts for 21 points in the 2nd quarter to take control. Doug Williams connects with Larry Mucker on a 15-yard TD pass and a 29-yarder to Jimmie Giles, sandwiched around a 5-yard TD run by Ricky Bell. Bell rushes for 69 yards on 18 carries helping the Bucs control the clock.
