Game Notes
Oilers hang on for a 20-14 win over the Bucs.
Houston dominates but must withstand a late rally by Tampa Bay after a pair of critical fumbles. The Oilers roll up 463 yards on offense, while holding the Bucs to under 200 total yards. But Cedric Brown returns a fumble 75 yards for a TD and then a fumble while trying to kill the clock and also had a clinching score, gives Tampa Bay one last chance that dies with Carter Hartwig's INT in Oilers' territory.
Earl Campbell rushes for 203 yards on 33 carries as Houston dominates the time of possession. Kenny Stabler hits his 1st 9 passes as well, finishing with 242 yards passing. But the Oilers only manage 13 points in the 1st half, and as a result the Bucs are able to pull within striking distance when Doug Williams hits Gordon Jones for a 17-yard TD pass late in the 1st half.
