San Francisco's defense equals a franchise-best 10 sacks after just 16 in the 1st 12 games, helping to smother New York and end an 8-game losing streak. The Giants manage just 131 total yards and spend much of the game in reverse.

Meanwhile, Joe Montana replaces Steve DeBerg early and generates enough offense to break the losing streak. Montana hits Earl Cooper on a screen pass and Cooper does the rest for a 66-yard TD pass in the 2nd quarter. Jim Stuckey sacks Phil Simms for a safety and Ray Wersching adds a FG before halftime. Cooper totals a 170 yards running and receiving.
