Ray Wersching hits a San Francisco-record 6 records and the 49ers force 5 turnovers to drop New Orleans from a 1st-place tie. The Saints lead 13-6 at halftime following Wayne Wilson's 1-yard TD run.

However, the 2nd half turns in San Francisco's favor as the turnovers flow. Two turnovers set up 2 of Wersching's 3 FGs in the 3rd quarter for a 15-13 lead, and then Dwight Hicks returns a pick of Kenny Stabler 62 yards for a TD and 22-13 lead. Wendell Tyler's 34-yard TD run in the 4th quarter seals the outcome.
