With a calmer Mike Ditka on the sidelines after a blow up the week before, Chicago's offense chugs up and down the field but fails to capitalize with points. Meanwhile, Detroit finds the end zone. Eric Hipple tosses a TD and runs for another, and Gary Danielson also adds a TD pass.

Billy Sims scores on a 3-yard run and then Hipple hits Dexter Bussey on a 14-yard TD pass for a 14-0 lead. Danielson enters in the 3rd quarter after Hipple is hurt and finds Ulysses Norris with a 20-yard TD pass to open a 24-10 lead. Hipple puts the game away in the final 2 minutes running in from 8 yards on a fake FG.
