Chicago smothers Atlanta's offense holding it to -22 yards pass, recording 5 sacks, 3 turnovers and a safety. Walter Payton sets the NFL record with his 7th straight 100-yard game, rushing for 102 yards and 1 TD before sitting out the 4th quarter.

Payton follows a pair of FGs by Kevin Butler with a 40-yard TD sprint, and then William Perry adds a 1-yard TD plunge for a 20-0 lead by halftime. Meanwhile, the defense reigns, forcing Dave Archer and Bob Holly into a combined 3 completions for 16 yards in 17 attempts.
