Game Notes

Bears beat the Packers 23-7 on MNF.

Chicago plays a ragged game, but creates a pop culture hero in the process as William "The Refrigerator" Perry steals the show with cameo appearances on offense, blocking for 2 TD runs by Walter Payton and scoring one with a 1-yard dive. The Bears weathered 4 fumbles in the 1st half with the aid of 5 turnovers by Green Bay and unproductive scoring.

The Packers roll up 319 yards on offense, despite using 3 QBs, against the vaunted Chicago defense. But Green Bay is only able to convert that into a 27-yard TD pass from Lynn Dickey and James Lofton in the 1st quarter. The Bears tie the game when Payton scores a 2-yard TD run behind Perry's block.

Perry does the scoring himself the next time, with a 1-yard plunge, and then Payton adds a 1-yard TD run behind Perry later in the 2nd quarter for a 21-7 lead.
